I wanted to take a moment to talk about RCI Offroad and the great experiences I’ve had with them over the past couple of years. First of all, they have great products. But they also have great customer service.
I first gave them my business when I bought a fuel tank skid for my 5th Gen 4Runner. I placed the order and within 2 weeks, it was at my doorstep. I’m sure the delivery man was thrilled as I was 😄. Next, was replacing my rusted out front skid for my 4th Gen 4Runner. As usual, I placed my order and in no time, it was at my door.
You might be thinking, “OK, this seems pretty run of the mill”, and I’d agree with you. But it wasn’t until my 3rd order from RCI that really made me appreciate their customer service. On my third order, a friend and I went in on a bundled purchase as a part of their holiday sales. Because of this, there was one payment from my friend as well as his shipping address. He ordered some skids, and I ordered a filler plate for my 4th Gen.
We received our order in a very timely fashion, but then life got in the way and I didn’t have an opportunity to install my plate until just a couple of weeks ago. When I went to install what seemed to be a very straight forward process, I couldn’t get the plate to fit no matter what I tried. I thought I was losing my mind.
In a cry for help, I emailed RCI asking what the heck I was doing wrong and did they have tips for the install? In what I view as a defining moment for them as a business, I got a response:
Thank you so much for your business. Can you please send me a picture of the filler plate? We recently had a batch of them formed backwards so they weren’t able to line up and be used. If that’s the case I will get out a correct one to you right away. Send me a pic of the issue and we’ll get you squared away. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Keep in mind, I didn’t ask them if their product was faulty, I asked what I was doing wrong. They could have just as easily have said, “You may have to finagle a little bit but put the bolts in the holes and tighten it up”, but they didn’t. They immediately acknowledged a potential issue on their side of things.

I sent them a couple of pictures and within 3 days — yes 3 days — I had my new filler plate. I live in Maryland and they shipped from Colorado. The plate bolted right up and I am incredibly pleased with my experience with them and would definitely recommend their products. I will certainly continue to give them my business.
