I finally got around to installing my Plastics Guy DuroBump rear bump stops from toyotabumpstops.com on my 4th Gen 4Runner. For those following me, you know that I have been driving on the front DuroBumps for a good bit of time now with great success. I absolutely love the way they feel over dips in the road, and unexpected bumps. They’ve also handled the off-roading I’ve done with ease. I wouldn’t have ever guessed that such a small upgrade could make such a difference in feel. But I digress.
This weekend, I had the chance to install my rear DuroBumps. Install was a breeze, and to ensure that I didn’t shear any bolts like last time, I doused the bolts with PB Blaster and then hit it with a torch. Using my impact driver I eased it out back and forth to break up some of the rust and not bind the bolt too much.
Using the new longer bolts and loctite provided, tighten them down “snug”. The bump stops are side specific, so make sure you put them on the correct side. The notch in the bump stop should be on the outside towards you as you are installing them.
When looking at the side by side comparison, you can see that it’s almost twice as tall as OEM. A buddy of mine asked, “won’t this decrease your flex in the rear?” The great thing about these is that the answer is no! They are designed with dual durometer rubber and even though they make contact sooner, they will compress to the same dimension as OEM. This gives you a very progressive and soft bottom for your shocks, providing more comfort, better control and more longevity for your shocks!
Now that I’ve got them on, I’m really looking forward to my next outing!
